Cannot change file ownership - access denied??

Hi guys,

 

I copied a file to a folder on our server from my computer today. Later on, I wanted to delete it but was denied access.

Checking the properties (directly on the server; as administrator) I noticed I didn't have permission to change anything. I've had this before and it was due to ownership so off I go to change the ownership… however I don't have permission to do that either!!

 

So, I'm an administrator and can't do ANYTHING with a particular file. I can move it, delete it, rename it.

 

Any ideas??

Hmm try rebooting the server if possible. I have know in the past i have to deal with files that get locked up and reboot does the trick. After reboot then try changing the permissions. If that doesn't work I think the MFT is corrupted.

If the server is not a DC and the account you used is the domain admin, try using the local admin account to change ownership.

You can try changing the file's read/write permissions using cmd. In Vista and 7 you can run cmd as the built in 'system' account and that has full access to change permissions on everything
