Windows 7 -Installing XP MSIs

We are moving over to Windows 7 this summer and have well over 100 MSIs that we have created for XP over the years that are still in use.

 

Could somebody please let me know how they have found working with XP MSIs on Windows 7. If there are problems, are there any reliable utilities which can walk through XP MSIs and make any necessary changes?

I have found that all of my MSIs I created for XP work for Windows 7. I must confess, however, that I don't have anywhere near 100!

Thank you Dave. That is a relief. Hopefully it will not be nearly as much of a mission as I had feared as the first one I tested was PowerDVD which straight away came up with a "Known Compatibility Issue".

As to Power DVD there may have been an updated version issued for Windows 7 [i think] which came with our Dell PCs/laptops. I was not able to create new MSIs when we moving over to Windows 7 and Windows Media Player gave us problems at some stations but not others. I decided to deploy VLC Media Player as the DVD/other media player of choice.

 

It is working well for us.

most of mine worked as well, the issues I had were mostly with the application comparability. spent a few days testing over 500 Apps.

Why not just Virtualise everything ?

Windows 7 can play DVDs without additional software why bog it down. Plus how the fudge do you have a 100 current deployables? I can't have more than 15!

Why are you restricted to 15? Is that just one subject? Thank you for the feedback on Windows 7's built in DVD player, I will give that a go.

They will probably work. Most of the ones that have been created here do but I'm taking the precaution of going through them all, seeing what's inside them using Installshield Adminstudio and testing them anyway. I've found some interesting things which I'll diplomatically put down to the inexperience of the individual who packaged them (Things like Windows update caches and antivirus definitions!).

Chances are that these packages were created five, six, seven years ago before virtualization packages were free and PCs in general were powerful enough to run them properly. Any that I create now are done in clean virtual environments.

We also had about 100 msi's when going from xp to 7 and all of them bar one worked fine, some of them will complain in event viewer but still work.
