mac_shinobi Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I think it was on the edugeek forum about pay rise for IT staff ( maybe I am dreaming or something ) but I am just curious when should it or will it happen ? Anyone got any other info on that or is there any way of finding out for definite ? Thanks

MkII Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 LOL! There's a major shift hapenning where schools are having to wake up to the fact that they actually need IT and proffessional grade support. As is our mantra, staff will soon move on to jobs where they pay the proper rate for thier skills. It will happen eventually i'm sure. But it's a slow process.

russdev Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 no strikes never work unless you get back of every support union and gmb would never go on strike... also because pay varies across the board some people have no reason to strike... but way that saleries will be raised is more relisation that ict support is needed by staff and goverments (which is happening) and the people will not apply for low paid jobs so it will force wages up.. GrumbleDook Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Shane ... presuming you are on the NJC pay spine that associate staff in LEA schools are on in our area then the "pay rise" may be the annual cost of living increase ... this is always late and then back dated. If you are talking about moving up the pay scale then the scale is seperated into various grades containing several points ... most staff increase a point each year until they reach the top of their grade ... then you have to renegotiate your grade with your Head. If you have not been at the school long then you may not increment a point. It is general practice to have completed a full year before the increments start. Also the idea of a strike is pants. It only works if you will be missed ... and since schools in our area have a number of choices other than having their own techies then the Head can just throw other people in ... yep, there is a loss of service, but they would have a loss of service if you strike. IF you are talking about the general level of pay for ICT Techs across the country increasing ... then yes there is a slight trend, but only slight. The plethora of MCSE qualified and experience industry bods thet were available to work cheaply in schools is gone as they are slowly returning to the IT sector in idustry now that IT is picking up again. It means that to get good staff they have to pay more ... but this is a very slow thing.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Not where I am - I have one head teacher who, when talking about teachers who are responsible for expensive equipment, actually used the PE department as an example - my poor IT co-ordinator was completly bemused. And the other one is about to inflict an RM system on me 'Nuff said
