Help to vectorise/improve our logo please

Can anyone help me to improve on this? This is our school logo and this is about the best version we have of it. I would love a vector version.

 

 

Also, if anyone thinks they can modernise it in anyway please feel free, but I still want a vector of the original as I'll have to convince the head if we are to change the logo substantially! Thanks.

 

In case it helps, the school name is Mascalls, and we are in Kent. The logo is supposed to look like an M and an A, and also Oast Houses. It is quite clever, but I think it looks a bit dated now. Colours can change, but blue is the school colour.

Great. I think we'll stick with it as it is then. I think my annoyance with it was due to working with poor quality bitmaps. Can I ask what package you use for your vector work? If I want to play around with it should I use Illustrator, or is there something else?
