Major D-Link Switch Problems

I've been looing at the Extreme Summit 450e as edge switches they are very fast sadly most of our wall mounted cabinets will need to be changed to install them.

 

This is a common problem now, as high density high speed switches are inherently more complex, and therefore larger.

Ok to bring this topic back to life with my latest update to this story. Just this morning I went to D-Link House as I was invited to do so by the manager. Very nice and friendly people. Was shown one of the switches we had returned that they had replaced all the fans on. The sound level was only slightly improved. However, as compensation for our troubles they gave us a free dgs-3048 gigabit switch. This is still just as loud however I feel that this has been a wasted exercise as they still couldn't guarentee the silence of future switches.

 

The problem with just changing the fans to quieter ones is that the current fans spin at 8800 rpm and the only quiet ones are around 3-4000 rpm.

 

We are now going to try Dell for our next Gig switch so I will let you guys know how that goes.

Just to let you know where we are up to now: Ever since the D-link management team have got involved their customer service has been A* I keep on getting phone calls all of the time to see how we are getting on with our switches, and they even came down to see how the noise problem was affecting us. They recommended that we connect 2 DGS-1024D's together and this will decrease the noise. They assured me that our earlier problems were a one off, and everything is resolved now.

I did not post anything on this until the issue had been resolved to the schools satisfaction. To do so would have not been fair.

 

From reading this thread it is obvious our internal systems initially let this school down. But, D-Link is a company that learns from its mistakes, takes responsibility, and is committed to giving the best possible service to the UK education market.

 

If anyone on this forum is not happy with our products or the service they have received in any part, just let me know and I will do anything in my power to find a satisfactory resolution. D-Links involvement with Edugeek is not about advertising, but engagement with this community to give another route for you to talk to us directly at a senior level.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm having the same frustration with noisy 48port switches. One switch we've had to just put up with (DGS-1248T rev B), which I'm not happy about. I now need to replace an old 48port switch (located in an IT classroom) and am concerned about replacing it with a noisy switch. Has the situation with the 1248T improved at all?

I tried Andrews (D-Links) email but it bounced so clearly he's moved on since this old thread.
