Mandatory profiles \ solid background \ BGInfo

Just squeezing down my mandatory profile and the wallpaper is next on the hit list. Is general consensus that the solid colour background issue is fixed (with the hotfix or without these days?)

I'm going to be using BGInfo anyway so prefer no background in the profile if possible...

I may be missing something obvious, but what solid colour issue? :)

gshaw is referring to Windows 7 Gold experiencing slow logons with a solid colour as a background. There was a hotfix released, but if you're running Windows 7 SP1, the patch is included.

BGInfo won't work with Windows 7 by default, but if you perform an Edugeek or Google search, some people have taken to writing complex login scripts. For this very reason I ditched BGInfo on all 7 networks I support, plus users generally prefer a prettier wallpaper than BGInfo offers.

We have Windows 7: 64 Bit working with BGInfo. BGInfo sets a solid background colour with a themed picture [bMP] superimposed in the centre of the wallpaper.

To easily distinguish between student and staff logons at a distance student desktops and staff desktops are different primary colours [that way we can easily spot is a student has successfully logged on as a member of staff without having to approach the workstation]

It works well enough for us.

Thanks for the confirmation, wasn't sure if it was bundled into SP1 or was one of the many updates waiting for SP2.

Having quickly read through this http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/78718-windows-7-bginfo-background-issue.html I don't think we'll have a problem as I've always done BGInfo via a folder created on the C: drive of each machine (using GPP so it only copies once), never had an issue with it that way and looks like it should still be OK :)

Yes, confirmed - it was one of the issues fixed in SP1, along with the related glitch where backgrounds would only show on the Aero Flip view. For the record, the KB articles about them are here and here. Gave me a headache the first time too.

Just applied my XP BGInfo GPP \ GPO settings and it worked first time with no modifications required :)

I use a mix of GPP to create files in a dedicated folder for BGInfo along with some vbscript to set the correct wallpaper for each resolution we use (4:3 and large widescreen)

Working here too, bginfo.bmp copied to C:\windows, given modify permissions fo all, then applied by a startup script calling the cgi from the sysvol. We have a solid background with the school logo in the middle.
