Flash 11 GPO / confusion

I've got in a muddle with Flash. I'm trying to roll out v11 via an .msi I downloaded from here:

 

Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe

 

There was a group policy to install a previous version, and I think I've messed things up by trying to simply replace the old .msi file with the new one.

 

Trying to install via Group Policy didn't work. And even when I try to run the new .msi directly on a client, it wants the old file; if you point the PC at the new one, it says: "....not a valid installation package for Adobe Flash Player 9...", which is quite true, because it's an installation package for Flash Player 11. Can't it forget the past and move on...? Why does the v11 installer hark back to the v9 one...? And if I have to reinstate the original deleted v9 .msi to sort this out, where can I get it...? (I tried running the Adobe Flash uninstaller but that didn't seem to help.)

You need to restore the original MSI to its location, then add the new one as a new package that 'upgrades' the old one in the GPO via the advanced options when you add it.

 

Basically, the old one gets uninstalled and the new one installed - so it needs the old installer in order to remove it.

D'oh, thanks localzuk, I'll resume my search for the v9 installer; haven't found it yet...

 

*edit* aha, gotcha. Good job I never tidy up my home folder...
