Dos_Box Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I've just seen this: Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Theatrical Version Blu-ray: Amazon.co.uk: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Peter Jackson: Film & TV and £15 for the 3 films in a box set is a bargin it seems. What I want to know is, does anyone have this set, and do you rate it? TBH, I'm not interested in the extended versions as I'd never have 4 hours spare to watch a single film and my kids would get bored very quickly. So, opinions?
featured_spectre Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 If you have a weekend spare to watch them one after the other, worth it, especially the extended version as it shows stuff not seen in the cinema. I have it and I think its worth it. But then I am a HUGE fan of the series.
sonofsanta Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) This page may sway you (it certainly sold me on the idea of HD at the time): Fellowship of the Ring - HD vs DVD Also, while googling about trying to find that link, apparently there's some upset about the Extended Edition having a strong green cast for the first film - so the theatrical edition may be more to your liking anyway, it certainly looks more natural from what I've seen (google LOTR Extended Edition green cast for some excellent examples of online whining) With the extended editions, I think they work better treating them as 6 films not 3, given that the films are split over two discs each - makes it much more palatable timing. Although I have sat and watched all three extended films back to back once, it was DVT-riffic. How I miss being a student. In summary: well worth £15 I reckons. You may also be interested in the excellent pricing of Planet Earth - Special Edition Blu-ray Region Free: Amazon.co.uk: David Attenborough: Film & TV - £13.50 is pretty irresistible, can't wait for mine to arrive EDIT: looking more closely at that comparison page... I'm half bloody tempted even though I'm otherwise an Extended fanboy. Time to get on with ripping out network switches so I can't get online to spend the money...! Edited April 4, 2012 by sonofsanta

Haptic Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Do it! Just don't try what we did a few years back, drinking a shot every time the word 'ring' is mentioned. Messy. Joe

Haptic Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Nice link...hardcore mode looks gnarly! Surely anything with Orlando Bloom acting badly prompting drinking will lead to fatalities!! Joe

Dos_Box Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 They arrived yesterday, and I was most impressed as they were the 2 disc versions with the film+extras discs and I was only expecting the film in each case Now to find the time to watch them!
