tben2505 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Putting the discussion about why we're still using this version of Nova aside... does anyone know if it's possible to automatically log users out of the Cover module if they are inactive? Since people sometimes leave it logged in and prevent other users accessing it! Cheers Tom
TLARWise Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Since we still use it as well I am not in a position to comment anyway:) I don't think it is possible to automatically log users out but i believe you can use the File>Reset Locks option to allow access again. We don't have many people who use this program so i am not entirely sure how this will affect the users who left it logged on but it shouldn't do anything permanent.
Linfit Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Not used T4 for a couple of years, and don't have a working copy of it to check here, but I think that if you choose "Reset Locks" - (I think its on the File Menu but my memory may be slightly off) this will achieve what you want. I used to use it when the Deputy Head who was writing the timetable forgot to log off.
tben2505 Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 Does it lose any unsaved data from the user currently hogging it!!?
Linfit Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Never did when I did it - I think if the timetabler had lost his edits I would have been the first to know........!
vikpaw Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 There was an app discussed and posted somewhere a long time ago that was for SIMS i think, it would kill a process at a fixed time. perhaps that could be modified.
matt40k Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Isn't supported so you shouldn't use it. If you keep your SIMS up-to-date, it's going to disappear soon.
number34 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 ...it's going to disappear soon. Matt I notice that support ceases from the Spring update but are you also saying that they will remove all links to it as well? I mean from the focus menu and also the export routines in NT6.
matt40k Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 It's gone from the focus menu in a future release, forget when. Not that far away. I'm guessing capita won't remove the export routine however.
winng Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Inside this issue: 1. IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Nova T4 - No longer supported from the Spring release

I'm guessing capita won't remove the export routine however. I thought it was being removed in Spring but it must be Summer now as we still have it - unfortunately! I wanted it hidden so that only I could use it. As a matter of information, I have recently responded to a personal invite to comment on the reports that are not yet present in NT6 or SIMS, that we still need to use NT4 for! Needless to say, I also commented on the other functionality that NT4 has that has also not been brought into NT6 or SIMS! Yep - I am still trying to get 'em to include the full functionality from NT4 that us old-timers have always relied on! It's been a very long campaign too! Edited March 23, 2012 by Sivadam

Sivadam Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) The obvious example is the Curriculum Diagram for each Year Group - together with it's Extra Details functionality via 'right click' to show the pupils per class (even via gender!). Believe me - that is a very powerful tool to use pre/during Ofsted - and we have had a good few of those over the past 3 years! I could go on and on ..... and .... on! Also what about the easy 'cherry picking' of Pupils via the 'Search for pupil with name beginning with zzzzz' routine? In just a few mouse clicks you can generate any list you want in a matter of seconds! And that one ain't even reached the agenda stage yet - despite me raising it many times over the years that NT4 has been down as 'redundant'! Edited March 23, 2012 by Sivadam
