bwestlake Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 We are setting up a fog server and are wondering what HDD would be better a: 7200rpm, SATA III, 64MB Cache or 7200rpm, SATA II, Enterprise Drive, 64MB Cache
3s-gtech Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 The Enterprise drive would probably be designed for constant uptime (eg server use) so should be better suited. SATA III won't make any difference with that disk and the load FOG puts on it.

jamesfed Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Further to my previous message - how many machines would you be imaging at one time? This can help gauge disk IO requirements and NIC requirements.
RageRiot Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 anything past SATA III on HDDs is a marketing joke. while you can get burst in the ranges of SATA II it's just a marketing ploy to make you think your getting supadupa speeds. hard drives cant physically provide a constant data stream anywhere close to SATA III's theroretical limits. SSDs on the other hand can or will at least come close, I've never used a SSD nor extensivly reasearched them.
