How to bridge a wireless signal to a non wireless pc can't think straight

I am setting up a CCTV system in the loft but don't want to run cat 5

 

What I am after is some kind of bridge that will talk to my existing wireless system

 

Box that picks up the wireless signal and then plugs into the normal LAN port at the back of the pc

 

It's a CCTV system so no windows operating system so just want something that plugs in and goes

 

Any sudgestions was thinking about Ethernet over powerline but I have a perfectly good wireless system.

 

Or shall I just whack some cat 5 in

I've forgot the proper name for it.. however, plug the cctv into a wireless AP via ethernet and then the AP connects to your wireless network giving the cctv network access.

The mode you put the AP in has a proper name... I just cant think of it right now. Sure someone will say.

We have some printers on laptop trolleys that don't have wifi so they plug into a ap to make them wifi and access to the network

 

I thought our ap's had a different name for it than bridged. Anyways this will work for your setup

Not working in a school currently but have been before and we had a trolley with

 

1. One switch ( similar to home user one ie netgear / linksys )

2. One Printer

3. Laptops stored underneath ( lockable )

4. A multi way socket for connecting any equipment to mains ( excluding laptops ) ie printer / network switch etc

 

Only things that would require connecting would be the multi way to a mains socket and one network lead which we seperated off ( different colour network lead to the other ones ) and showed said people.

 

I would either use a pair of those ethernet over mains plugs that give you an actual ethernet connector or do as above unless you are ok with making a whole in your ceiling then go with CAT 5e

Can be done with an access point. I've got 2 or 3 Belkin ones I used to use for connecting a number of devices into my main network at home before they were upgraded. If you are interested let me know.

What you need is the little NetGear gizmo called a WNCE2001

 

They are brilliant, they convert anything with a standard LAN port into a wireless device I connect TV's, satellite boxes printers I have one in toolbag so when somebody pops a pc round for repair I just plug it into the LAN port with the patient on the kitchen table. Easy Peasy.

just grabbed a wireless bridge off ebay for 15 quid its not gonna be passing much data out so should do the trick

any access point in bridge mode will do the trick

 

Or with some vendors its called "station mode" or similar. Just watch out for WDS and any proprietary technology as you may need to disable these to make it work
