So our school is 'soft federating' with 2 of our feeder schools. One of the things my boss is keen on is selling my services to them so that they get a more reliable network service and generally higher quality experience from their computers.

Now, one of the things I have brought up is that this isn't in my contract and that it could not come under the 'and anything reasonable asked of you' clause that exists, as it would require me to travel a bit to get to the schools, learn their networks etc...

I have said that I would want a payrise for this, and have sort of been told that it won't happen. Am I asking to much??

No, definately not asking too much. Raising your school's profile with the primaries will hopefully bring in more kids, and with more kids comes extra money to the school.

For all the work you do at the primaries, someone will have to cover for you at your current school.

Why not look at charging the primary schools a small amount to cover a pay increase?

Depends, does your job description require that you have a valid driving license and a working car? If it doesn't then tough cookies. Also don't forget you can claim milage, that in itself can be a fair chunk of change at the end of a month.

Oh, the primaries would be being charged.

And I don't need a license and car at the moment... The 2 schools are about 3 miles away and about 1 mile away, so they could argue that I can walk to one of them.

And I'll tell them to stuff that idea.

Plus you could argue they will have to pay for your insurance that may not cover you for use of your car for work purposes.

Don't let them force you into it.

Hm - localzuk, drop me a PM.

Our place used to do this as part of the Technology College remit - provide IT Support to the local feeder sites.

Quite possibly the most insane time-sink I've ever seen, some of them needing vast amounts of investment/work at that point.

Some of my guys have a lot of knowledge of the systems of some of the local feeders - can give you an idea of what you may be letting yourself in for.

Just to add to this we did a bit of support like this with our technology college status and it was horribly time consuming as has been said above.

Finally got them to see sense and we employed a field tech to support the feeders, some of them were paying horendous amounts to the lea for a field tech so they all pooled their money and the high school bunged some in to employ someone ourselves.

Craig can tell you how much he loves his job, sadist.

We look after 3 of our feeder primary schools and between them they pay about 9k a year, what we did is we hired a second technician to do these half a day a week and the rest of the time with us here, however we did have to pay an extra few 4k to bump it up to a decent salary but 4k for a technicain 3 & 1/2 days a week is bad!!
