What's with the obsession with touchscreens and voice entry?

That's more what I was thinking. I tend to set the satnav up before leaving home, and have it talk me through the whole journey even though I know 99% of the journey and just need guiding for the last few miles.

Yes, the Windows voice recognition is superb, but unless you have a disability I, as yet, can't see the point of using it as a control method for a computer, but maybe that's just me.

 

You should try it with a NZ accent, it is still horrible and you would have to spend a whole year training it just to get it up to a remotely usable level. I tried it when I broke my arm a few months back.

 

I also agree with those that point to this being a bit of a symptom of the Apple inspires 'consume' at all costs to yourself culture. Creativity is still not widespread and that computers lasted as long as they did as the tool of choice was a good thing for all those creative types. With lower volume comes hire cost and so there will be a penalty for actually being able to get the tools to create stuff efficiently in the future.

 

I like the whole touch thing for certain devices but I think that it must be only a part of the way that people deal with computers not the bee-all-and-end-all of computer interfaces that it is being made out to be by the advertising leaches.
