Apple Headphones

My headphones broke recently. Luckily, I recently got a new iPod so had a set of Apple headphones to fall back to until payday. Generally, I like Apple. Some things do bug me about them but as a whole, most of the stuff they have created has been great (Love or hate them, you cannot deny that the iPod (classic, not touch) is an amazing bit of kit).

 

So with all this money and ingenuity they have, why for the love of god do they have the WORST headphones known to man?!!! The cable used is so 'rubber-like' that it flops all over the place! This causes the headphones to be continual loosened leading to ear-ejection every minute or so! The only person I could imagine getting on with a set of Apple headphones is Big Ears from the Noddy books!!!

 

 

Edit: On another note, any replacement headphone recommendations welcomed!

I like my Skullcandy TiTans, they are a good headphone for the money about £17quid from ebay

 

also goldring gx200 are a good buy but more towars £35

Reid-Heath Acoustics make some very impressive headphones - especially at the price.

The ones I used last cost me £1.20 from one of those super cheap 'everything's a quid' (in this case £1.20) stores...

i agree, that the apple ones are awful, i can only wear them for 10 minutes before getting sore ears. Currently got some £25 Skullcandy's but am not overly impressed with sound quality, might go back to my original £50 budget next time.

I have to totally agree with you on this one regards to the worst head phones ever and I mean EVER !!!

 

Depends on how much money you are willing to part with , I would say Dr Dre ones or skull candy ones possibly, I have had seinheiser and sony ones before and both of them have been really good.

 

For the amount of money you pay to have said iDevice ( iPhone, iPod, iPad ) or whatever they could of at least chucked in a free pair of Dr Dre head phones or something half decent

 

FYI - I obviously like a fair amount of apple products but there are some things that even I can't stand

OT: Sennheiser anything, never bought a bad product from them! Personally don't like SkullCandy, they too have ridiculous rubbery leads that get cuaght on everything and make a racket (at least, the ones I had did)

I have a pair of cheap ones and my advice would be to avoid them - they pick up radio signals and I can't use them while I do the washing up because the aluminium sink interferes! A reputable brand might be better though...

I did contemplate it but they were too much £££ plus the need for batteries afaik they are reliant on bluetooth which will also run your phone down battery wise. Hence why I went with a physical cord

Got a free case through the case program they did otherwise would of cost me about £30

Hahaha! This made me chuckle.

 

When I'm in the kitchen, I take the OH's Netbook in with me. It runs XBMC and I connect it via bluetooth it to a set of speakers we have in the kitchen. When the microwave is on, it kills the sound until the microwave 'pings'!

Must be missing the point but are they totally rubbish or is it more of a buy it for the logo and you would be better off with something else that is cheaper where you are paying for the headphones and not just the brand

Aye, they've a terrible sound profile - but people love them because of the name/brand/style etc

 

Also, having been stood next to commuters wearing them - they've got a fair amount of spill for such 'high-end' cans...

Err .. @Rawns, thanks for the thanks although I was being a bit ... err ... glib. They are what I ended up with when I recently wanted to replace a pair of old Sennheiser HD265's (reasonably quality closed back). These are for listening to music at my desk at work - not for moving around in! I coupled them with a little Nuforce Icon amp which can drive a small pair of high efficiency speakers for when no one else is around (I tend to start very early or sometimes finish very late and like a bit of music). Anyhow ... the AKG's I would recommend - they are almost utterly transparent and give an astonishing sense of the soundstage. The Icon I wouldn't recommend, although it does a reasonable job, there is better available and I wish I'd gone and built myself an [ulr=http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/08/o2-summary.html]O2[/url] as a dedicated headphone amp instead (I will ... sometime soonish). Wireless cans I would avoid - put all your money into getting a decent sound in the first place.

I have several types all made by Sennheiser. In ear-phones, hook over ear-phones, HD415 head-phones, etc.

This.

Currently got a pair of CX300 IIs. I ran my original CX300s into the ground over a couple of years. Love em.

They are very 'music-y' though, lots of bass, lots of treble, and a noticeable dip in between.

 

Of course, if you want to take that concept to the extreme, these are amazing. Warm, round and so much bass.

 

Higher up, Denon do some good in-ear ones. These have some of the most comfortable buds I've ever used and have a nice balanced hifi sound, probably better for spoken word than the other two.

 

Over head, don't buy anything that isn't these. Indestructible, perfect sound, and spares parts available. Had a pair for 7 years and never had to replace anything. Then someone stole them

 

EDIT: re: Beats by Dr. Dre. They're good, but not 3 figures good.
