RobFuller Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I recently purchased one of these Auto V1.5 Bluetooth CAN-BUS Diagnostic interface scanner tool OBD2 OBDII ELM327 | eBay brilliant for the money! Came with an interesting CD of software for Windows, Android, WinMob and Symbian!? Worked with my MR2 Roadster and diagnosed an EML which on its own was brilliant, I used the free version of Torque which I was so impressed with ended up purchasing the full version for less than £3. I also tried it on my Mini Cooper S and I love PSI readings from the supercharger it’s a geek’s toy and handy tool combined!

OBD2 device arrived today (same model/price you paid) and I've just been playing with it in the car on Torque. For less than £15 you can have a full diagnostic suite and monitoring suite. It also allows you to read/reset EML warnings. I'm looking forwards to running the Track Recorder app on a trip to Cumbria tomorrow
JaggedEdge Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Used this recently to check my wife's car when the Check Engine light came on. Diagnosed a bad shift solenoid. The mechanic confirmed it and promptly took me to the cleaners.

Nice. I got that very adapter off eBay for £10.99 (inc. shipping). I ran it for the first time over the weekend and was very impressed. I also found out that the fault I thought I had wasn't actally what is wrong. It turns out I have have a duff oxygen sensor an one of the cats. It's £128 for a new one and you can fit them yourself. It's not a critical fault and as I've road tax to fork out for at the end of the month I'll wait until the end of April to replace it. In short, it paid for itself. I'm now going to see how well the RM Slate and provided software works with it. What is the web system you coded (and can I have a copy!!) and how do you transfer the data. It looks very convenient.
Jackd Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It's just something custom at the minute, have you tried the torque web interface (I haven't, it may be better than what I've come up with for all I know!). The torque logging system is pretty stupid at the minute anyway, everytime it polls the sensors it sends http request which means that it sends thousands of http requests. It's not very elegant to say the least, but if I get something better working i'll release it

Jackd Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 They can also be used to read car faults, clear faults and lots of other things. I'm mainly just using mine for logging stuff and viewing information I don't get on my dash.

Dos_Box Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Well, this has paid for itself many times over. The error it detected was a faulting air/fuel sensor, and becuase it gives you the codes I found out that this one is on the manifold at the very front of the engine and can be changed on the drive at home in about 15 mins and a new (Toyota branded) part is £128 from Amazon. All in all, I reckon I've saved myself over £100 in garage fees (more actually as they would charge extra for the part as well).
