Staff User Accounts

What structure do use for your staff accounts, i.e do you sperate teaching, support acounts etc... into different ou's?

We have Organisational Units for departments [English, Maths, Science, Learning Support etc] We also have Organisational Units for staff who do not fit into these divisions ]Temporary Staff, GTP, Administration, ...]

 

This helps when allocating printers. Many staff have expressed a preference to print to a particular printer no matter which machine they logon to. While others like to print to the closest printer [usually the printer in the where they are logged in] I also have some sub OUs that have policies that modify the policy inherited from the OU above: One example is where a member of staff 'must' be able to see the C:\ drive [as it is hidden from most staff]

Staff domain (legacy setup, it's just a child-domain of the student/main domain)

Teaching staff

-Each faculty

Admin staff

-Office staff

-Senior staff (SLT etc)

 

SLT have separate admin accounts (only available on their own laptops using Log On To) and teaching accounts for classroom work. Everyone under the Admin staff OU is a Power User, Teachers are just Users. Seems to work pretty well.

Excellent thanks for the info guys, we just have ict support, teaching, support, supply as top level ou's for the users.

 

Just writing an excel spreadsheet to automate the data input file creation for our user import tool.

All staff are in one OU.

Pupils - Locked down tight. Shared documents drive is set to read only [but can't be seen].

Non-teaching - locked down, to a degree. No studentwork drive, IIRC. Has Staff drive.

Teaching - same restrictions as non-teaching. Access to Student work. Has staff drive.

System admin - unrestricted [i have about 9 network drives and 3 virtual CD drives.]

 

 

Everyone gets the same filtering and only Sysadmin can install things.
