IE9 on W7 - flashes up, then vanishes

Very odd. I've done everything on the MS kb page (Internet Explorer opens, flashes, and then closes immediately when you start it), but it still won't open. I've removed it and reinstalled it, rebooted, all that. Apart from just getting the user in question to use Firefox or something on her laptop from now on, is there actually a way to fix this?

do you have Java installed? I had this issue a little while ago. it was the java plug-in.

If this laptop is part of your domain you can retain control by using Chrome now they have released their managed "Chrome for Business" browser.

IE can be really funny sometimes, I’ve built images before exactly the same and one IE is fine the other one crashed, which is when i also came across was this:

 

Run Internet Explorer as an Administrator and unchecking the Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > “Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks” option.

Just about every time I see this happen it is because of a junk add-on that has its hooks in IE. Tool bars, coupon printers, shopping thingies, you name it. Uninstalling the crap typically fixes it.

If you click Start > Run and enter the following command:

 

iexplore -extoff

 

If IE opens, then it'll be an add-on - either a plugin or toolbar causing the issue. If it still doesn't open, it could be something registry related (in theory).

If you right click on IE - doesn't it give you an option to start IE with no add ons ?

 

Presume your method does the exact same thing just in a different way ( ie using start --> run --> said command instead of the above.)

No, I don't believe it's there in 7, but yes, the command I quoted does the same thing.

Use 32 bit windows 7 enterprise at work so will check on that tommorow

Had an AV definition auto-update come through once that suddenly started this behaviour... just a small suggestion
