philjones2000 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hi Am banging my head against a wall on this one- trying to upgrade 30 iPads to ios5- iTunes downloads it, extracts it and then returns the error that "it could not contact the upgrade server". I've unfiltered all the sites I could find that apple said could be blocking it: itunes.apple.com ax.itunes.apple.com ax.init.itunes.apple.com albert.apple.com gs.apple.com ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net mzstatic.com apple.com evintl-ocsp.verisign.com evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com Has anyone got it to work on a swgfl connection? mb2k01 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 This will probably not help a great deal - but I'm in the SWGfL and have had no problems at all! With that said, I've probably nearly always been logged in to the 'staff proxy' when updating, so have a unfiltered connection etc. 1

mb2k01 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Since my post yesterday I've been trying to recall whether I ever had an issue. I have a vague memory of having to right click on iTunes and run as administrator (even though I am!) to get something to work once. I'm not convinced it was OS update related though - clutching at straws but could be worth a try! Also, I'm curious - you say you're on the unfiltered proxy, but your first post mentioned you had gone through unfiltering specific websites... Are you sure you're on the staff proxy? (Change your proxy to 213.18.249.18:8080 and then login using http://login.staffproxy, then try again? You'll be using the exact same settings as me then!)

But I've also tried it with the staffproxy.swgfl and logged in. (and unfiltered the sites as well in hope that maybe something wasn't working properly...) Thanks for your help- have contacted swgfl to see if they can do something....
elsiegee40 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I seem to remember that this error was very common when ios5 was first launched. Everyone got it. You just have to be patient... and probably restrict how many you try to do in 1 go.

If so please try setting the proxy.swgfl.org.uk proxy from there & retesting. that would be a no, does anyone know what ports are required as if others suggest this works via SWGFL proxies I wondered if our Cisco hardware firewall sat between our network and the SWGFL router may be the issue?

soveryapt Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I know that here (CLEO) I had to define a direct proxy connection as iTunes doesn't seem to like any auto config style of access (so instead of using the http://wwwcache.cleo.net.uk I use a direct connection to the proxy.lancsngfl.ac.uk:8080) - I don't know if that will work for you guys too. If you're using an auto config then it's likely to be that, otherwise it could just be blocked. 1
