"Alert" System for Pupil Referral Unit?

Has anyone got any experience\knowledge of a instant messaging type system that is capable of sending an alert?

 

This is for use in a Pupil Referral Unit, so that the staff can instantly alert other staff from their PC should some of the students "kick off".

 

Any advice\guidance much appreciated!

not sure if you ever got something sorted, but if you have SIMS there is a feature called "on call" for this.
