gshaw Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Just been going through some of our VMs to check they're running with the optimum amount of RAM and noticed that our primary DC is barely using 1GB of RAM (currently allocated 4GB as part of the standard template we use) What are others running their DCs with, thinking of dropping it down to 2GB (same applies to a few other servers e.g. a 2003 DHCP server has 2GB probably only needs 1GB)
psydii Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Ours are set for 2GB with a maximum utilisation of <50% in the last month. Hope this helps.
FN-GM Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 The last school was 4GB again from our standard template. We had plenty of spare resources so we didnt see any point in reducing it.
jamesfed Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Yep 2GB for a DC works fine here as well - going to be looking at moving to a more Server Core based network with Server 8 so I guess that might even get lower.

I thought that at first but used up 36GB on one host for the first time the other day... having VMware lets me play with too many shiny things
Chuckster Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Both DCs are virtualised and each one is running 2GB RAM, as this is the minimum requirement indicated by MS. Furthermore, both DCs have only a single processor each.
pete Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 2GB here (non-core) and they're barely using half that.
gshaw Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Thanks all, going to drop them down to 2GB I think
