CHR1S Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 On my older XP clients we have a custom html desktop. For the life of me I cant get the same one to display on W7, The GPO is set but it never displays. Any ideas?
Michael Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Active Desktop was removed ever since IE7 or IE8 was installed on XP. It's also been removed from Vista and 7 by default. If you look at the GPO: User Config > Policies > Admin Templates > Desktop > Desktop - Enable Active Desktop, in the Supported on field it clearly states: Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 operating systems only. You can filter out policies by OS by navigating to View > Filter Options in Group Policy Management 1

ToyHeartsFan Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Why do you need html on the desktop? Just use redirected desktop and if you really need a html page install iis on a server and create an intranet page and set it as the default home page.
CHR1S Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 It was a great way of providing info for staff, links, text, guides and it looked 100x better than a set of shortcuts. I appreciate the idea behind the intranet BUT the desktop is always up and always right in front of their face!

If not, could just make a program that can't be minimised and is always bottom layer. So programs open over it, but it's always on show (instead of desktop), but obviously it'd just block any actual shortcuts. And if you do that, you might as well just do it via an intranet page imo Steve
