CAM Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Did anyone pick one of these up last week? What do you think of it? I have a Vita but it kinda lacks games at the moment (Ridge Racer Vita = do not touch with a bargepole!). I hear Motorstorm RC can be downloaded off the store for a fiver though and worth a go. Trying the demo tonight. It'snot a bad consolebut I am still trying to work out what the hell this Near app is supposed to do.
X-13 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I want it to fail. Just like the PSP Go! Stupid Sony inventing proprietary disks [uMD] then making them redundant with the next console upgrade. Why not keep them and upgrade graphics and processors in each new one, allowing it to play any of the old ones but locking newer games to the current console [or higher]. You know... like a computer. Saying that... It does look nice, but the touch screen on the back seems stupid. Also, there's no MH on it. Which is going to impact on the Japanese sales, which may kill it.
flyinghaggis Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 The hardware looks nice but with Ipod touches/etc out there the concept of paying £200 for a portable gaming device and £40 for each game seems a bit out of date. The fact that it's main competitor (Nintendo 3DS) is half the price and has a much better selection of games means the Vita's going to have tough fight ahead of it.
andy_nic Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I bought one and Uncharted: Golden Abyss is quite good. But also got Ridge Racer Vita which doesn't work very well for me, you go online to a lobby and it kicks you out or times out. I downloaded a copy of rayman which has entertained me for a bit. The console is great but I want some more games. I know I can download from the PSN store but each games eats around 1 gig of space and I only bought a 8gb card.
plexer Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Just need a portable onlive console with 4g connection Ben
CAM Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Yeah the shop is a bit dodgy. £45 for the soccer game? Really Sony? And 16GB cards are equally overpriced but storage is essential since 2GB was eaten by my system on first boot.
Arthur Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Stupid Sony inventing proprietary disks [uMD] then making them redundant with the next console upgrade. The worst thing is they replaced the propriety UMD discs with propriety memory cards. When will Sony learn? Also annoying is the fact that you can't buy the 32GB cards in the UK. If they were sold here, the memory cards would cost £90.75 inc. VAT (based on the US price of $119.99) which is just insane when you can get an equivalent microSD card for ~£19!!!

Also, there's sort of a way to play PSP games on the Vita... If you're Japanese and you pay out AGAIN for your games. Jump on PSN [JP], prove you own the UMD, pay fee [iIRC it goes between ~£7 - ~£30], ???, backwards compatability.
Arthur Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Perhaps Sony (and Nintendo) should follow Sega's lead and start making more games for smartphones and tablets? http://i.imgur.com/uCG7L.jpg
X-13 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Isn't that an emulator/rip-off? I know Sega made a console with classic games on it... I think... I can't brain. I was up until 1am going through HTML and JS code.
Arthur Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Isn't that an emulator/rip-off? That is Sonic 4 for Tegra 3-based tablets/smartphones.
X-13 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 That is Sonic 4 for Tegra 3-based tablets/smartphones. I stand corrected.
Theblacksheep Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I got one. Great bit of hardware. Screen is amazing and having actual controls beats rubbing your fingers on glass by MILES.... smartphones are ok for the casual, but give me actual controls any day. At least the cards can be replaced/swapped. Not sure why Sony has got so much stick over this when Apple get away no expansion for double the price. Wasnt impressed with uncharted tho. Doesn't appear to be running in full res. Very impressed with Rayman, Unit 13 and the PSP emulator, both MGS:Peacewalker and MonsterHunter both work (currently need a PS3 to download them thought tho). No need to carry around stupid bulky UMDs as all games can be downloaded. Sony dont set the prices the software companies do. EA wants £45 for Fifa and people are stupid enough to pay for it. EA wants £9 for PlantsVsZombies. Special mention for Hustle Kings, which if you have for PS3 also works for free.
X-13 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 MonsterHunter RAWGLE FARGLE BLARGLE! I found another Monster Hunter! I'm guessing MHFU, amirite? Also, 3DS > Vita [because MH3G + MH4]

Also, 3DS > Vita [because MH3G + MH4] That's the one..... but you know where the next ones gonna be right? (hint: the one with two proper analogue sticks)
X-13 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 That's the one..... but you know where the next ones gonna be right? (hint: the one with two proper analogue sticks) The 3ds. Capcom/Ninty anticipated one of the arguements... And have sorted it. [There's also another 3DS being released, supposedly, with one built in.]

Also, 3DS > Vita [because MH3G + MH4] I'm selling my PSP 3000 and my 3DS is being delivered today, I have a PS3 and miss the old nintendo titles, I'm gonna play my 3DS casually when I need a mario fix

It's also the Zelda one. [same price as the normal one, but with free Zelda...]
Guest Guest Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Don't really see why people are moaning. If people weren't stupid enough to buy the product Sony would learn not to be so proprietary - simple really isn't it. And people have the nerve to moan about Apple. (Yes I know I moan about Apple but I also refuse to buy Sony)

CAM Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Wasn't that an update to an already failed console though? The mobile gaming market wasn't too open either when the PSP first came out, Nintendo were firmly entranched for years with the Game Boy but smartphones and netbooks have cracked that market wide open for competition. They need decent games though!
BassTech Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Thing is for phones, I don't think a touch screen is very good for serious gamers. It's good for a casual blast on angry birds etc but for me an old-school controller wins every time, the PSP Vita looks interesting but the games are way overpriced IMO, as with everything sony make...
Theblacksheep Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 The 3ds. Capcom/Ninty anticipated one of the arguements... And have sorted it. [There's also another 3DS being released, supposedly, with one built in.] If they anticipated it they would have included in the design. Instead they panicked and made a bulky add on.

CAM Posted March 1, 2012 Author Posted March 1, 2012 The slide pad puts me off of buying a 3DS, it looks and performs so badly I am wondering when 3DS-2 is released with a second stick.
