TechMonkey Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Joy, another morning of running around manually updating stations that seem to update fine but then won't launch SIMS. Or generate a user permissions error. Or work but then seem to fail after a couple of days.
skunk Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 SOLUS says: No new updates have been found. Do I have a lazy SOLUS install? Or an intelligent one which hides unstable releases from me?
TheScarfedOne Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Oh fun time again. Will be downloading that tomorrow then. Does anyone happen to know if the Solus3 and AppV drive letter issue is fixed? At least with SCCM I can manage the client install process by essentially a silent reinstall :-p
matt40k Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Does anyone happen to know if the Solus3 and AppV drive letter issue is fixed? I have no idea, maybe if you give us more info
TheScarfedOne Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 This issue... as you had the release notes to hand I assume from the postings... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/81021-solus3-app-v-woes.html
pubgrub277 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Anyone run the update yet? Never want to be the first. :-)
pubgrub277 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 sorry, just seen the sticky at the top. Can one of the mods delete this thread please. sorry about that
vikpaw Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 sorry, just seen the sticky at the top. Can one of the mods delete this thread please. sorry about that I've merged you in. I don't think anyone has got any far yet, we're all sitting on the fence. I've downloaded the ISOs but not used them yet. Maybe tomorrow on the test server.
fiza Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 As a school with SLG hosted by Capita we have to wait until after the SLG is updated which Capita have said will be 10th March. I will wait a few weeks after that before taking the plunge.
Rawns Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I've built 3 internal testing VM's and shall also upgrade my machine very soon.
matt40k Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Capita have said will be 10th March St 40k's day
creese Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Still having problems with DBAttach. A 2nd school is failing to login after detaching/backup. Not doing any upgrade until I know I can restore.
alastair Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Why oh why have Capita not made this Discover package compatible with the SOLUS3 auto-deploy feature?! More work for us then is required!!! /stabs voodoo doll it seams that this release has a few pre-requisites that need installed before auto deployment works, try downloading and deploying all the solus agent updates, then re-try auto deploy for discover. On another note, does anyone know the download location for the zip file, so i can also deploy it manually? <- link removed -> Edited March 1, 2012 by vikpaw Not supposed to put links to the software downloads
Rawns Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 it seams that this release has a few pre-requisites that need installed before auto deployment works, try downloading and deploying all the solus agent updates, then re-try auto deploy for discover.] The package is actually flagged as 'Cannot be auto-deployed' with the red explanation sign so I don't think it's to do with missing prerequisites.

The downloads were covered in @matt40k 's original post and should be available on SupportNet: Discover An update to Discover has been made and is available on SOLUS3. Full details are in the Release Note uploaded to Supportnet as resource ID: 19071. For those customers not yet on SOLUS3 a CD image is available for download on The password to access it is:
vikpaw Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Just to point out, you have to be on the latest stable release of Autumn 11 to upgrade to Spring 12. So if you applied the Autumn release, make sure you had the latest incarnation. There doesn't appear to be an upgrade path from the initial release which was later superceded. It's okay if you never went to Autumn 11. This is based on my test server where i had Autumn 1st release installed and then used the Spring 12 CD iso. I've managed to patch it by upgrading to a later Autumn, then applying Spring again. Will report back any interesting things tomorrow.
matt40k Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Ah yer, confirms what I thought, need the missing patch file (to upgrade to autumn r3). Capita are thinking that people listerned to them and no-one is using the autumn r1 release.
Mike_1 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Has anyone rolled this out to one of their schools yet? Any issues encountered?
vikpaw Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I've heard of no issues as yet. A few people have done tests, and two on SupportNet have done live upgrades with no issues as yet, across SIMS, FMS, Discover.
matt40k Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Nothing reported here. I did see something on SupportNet - "Spring - deleting result removes pupil from marksheet" just not had a good look yet.
HannahBuist Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Nothing reported here. I did see something on SupportNet - "Spring - deleting result removes pupil from marksheet" just not had a good look yet. That was me. I've been doing Spring release testing on Green Abbey and Water's Edge and all seems ok so far (touch wood) with the exception of this deleting a result issue. When highlighting a cell containing a result (not double-clicking to get the cursor) and pressing delete, rather than blanking out the cell it removes the pupil from the marksheet. If you close and re-open the marksheet the child reappears. Where this causes a problem is if you have calculations on a marksheet. If you remove a pupil from the marksheet, then press calculate (or click save with the calculate on save functionality selected) I get a 'there is no position at row XX' error and get thrown out of SIMS .net. So it's something to do with the system trying to calculate on a row that has since been removed. 2
vikpaw Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 @HannahBuist - Good catch, i just replicated on my setup. It deletes the student and if you hit save, the student comes back but with no grade showing. Have you reported it yet? I couldn't see it on supportnet, so it must be on your LA side only. Would be nice to have it patched before i go live.
synaesthesia Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Has anyone had an instance of their SQL database inflating itself to an unfeasible size after this update? One of my primaries SIMS database decided to try and bust out of it's 4GB holding cage and rendered the server unusable.
vikpaw Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 My test server seems fine. I did put it in simple mode before upgrading though as i did have a massive ldf and mdf. > 10Gb combined.
