caffrey Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 We have a lot of old p4 hp compaq machines which altho need updating are more than capable for their needs. So I thought i'd try putting windows 7 on them and using windows classic mode etc - turn off all the fancy stuff, seems like intel have other plans though Graphics — Older Intel® graphics controllers and Microsoft Windows 7* operating system Machines just happen to have the 82915g/gv/910gl express chipset. Any known workarounds for this or am I stuffed?
Arthur Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 This driver should work on (32-bit) Windows 7. More details here. 1
caffrey Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Thats fantastic, thank you very much - works a treat Annoying that intel say it can't be done....
3s-gtech Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Yeah it's not really an issue with what you want - 915G doesn't like Aero anyway due to no WDDM. You're not entirely stuck with Windows 7 32 bit as some P4s on that chipset support EMT64, but you're probably better off on 32 bit. Using the classic shell should give no issues.
caffrey Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 Yep, its working fine with 32bit and classic shell, tbh I think I prefer the classic shell instead of all the bells and whistles!
