Lapcabby 20 Mini - how i hate you

3 years ago i bought a Lapcabby 20 mini for our first set of netbooks. I have to say, it has been my worse purchase since being at this school.

 

It is an absolute nightmare to maintain. The kids are constantly loosing the cables down the back, the little slots in the plastic bits dont hold the cables for long.

 

Then we come to the back! How am i supposed to put 20 netbook power supplies in the back of this thing! ARGH!!

 

I'm lucky if the thing locks half the time....im considering putting a hasp and padlock on it soon.

 

I always seem to be alone with this opinion, so does anyone have a photo of how the back of theirs works?

ive yet to see a netbook/laptop cab thats owt but a total pita they either have the psu down the side of each laptop or have a rats nest at the back. I have seen one cab that had custom leads in it so there is about a 4cm bit of lead pocking out the front near the laptops charging socket but other than that its a dreadful trolley hard to move and wierrd inside

I have to say, my other trolley is a Bretford which is beautifully laid out but unfortunately doesnt have a timer like the Lapcabby one does...

nver really been a fan of them they just seem to be (assuming im thinking of the right trolley) throw all the psu's down behind the laptops and even if you do put them in neatly they soon get tangled up needs some cable management in them

I do know the ones you mean, but not this one. This one has little shelves for the psu's to sit on in the back and you just feed the lead through a hole and it sits on the shelf with the netbook

I ended up modding a trolley - drilling holes in the shelves and partitions and using plastic cable ties to keep all the cables in place. It took a day but it was worth it.

used to manage 2 x 20 lapcabby for a secondary school, worst thing in the world ended up just using a storage drawer system and a sac truck to transport them to the classrooms. Charging can be achieved by a timer (under £10) between the socket and the bretford? that would basically provide the same functionality.

Yes ours is the same, when I get the chance I will be doing the very same job, here they can't even put the net books in to the right numbered holder Never mind plug them in or sort out cables.

I gave all out laptop trolleys to the scrap man - he was really happy and we got about 40 quid!

I know it's bad form to be resurrecting an old thread, but we just got the first of 2 LabCabby 32 laptop ones - my initial thoughts reflect those of my esteemed colleagues above - not impressed.

It feels like an (expensive) Ikea cupboard on wheels.

The only place to cable tie the power leads are the tiny, flimsy plastic grips at the top - I give it a month before they're trashed.
