Xibo Client Devices

Hello all,

 

I need to figure out a bunch of client devices to run Xibo on 8 projectors within our school. I have got it all successfully running on an individual netbook, but would really like a cheap (around the £100 mark) nettop to mount behind the IWBs each projector goes to.

 

does anyone have any suggestions or is there an even cheaper linux device, I know there is a linux client but couldn't find the install instructions, plus i need it to run powerpoint files nice and simply.

While the Xibo client only supports Windows (and .Net) don't expect to get a dirt cheap PC for the job, unless you repurpose a second hand one. New versions of Powerpoint like to have some graphical grunt behind them too for their transitions etc, so don't get one too weedy for the job!

There is a Python client for Linux - it is alpha and does not support Powerpoint.

The Acer Revo's are pretty good. We are using the old model, R3600 iirc, which have been fine.

 

You can generally pick one up with windows on it for less than £200. £150 if you have your own windows licence.

How Urgently do you need this? I will be getting rid of a whole load of HP DC7800 Ultra Small FF pc's in the summer (either may or aug) - Intel Vpro 2gb ram

 

They are yours if you can wait - comes with a vista business license but no install disks - Power cable aswell. I use for them for all our Displays.

I think our head wants them working sooner rather than later, even £200 a client is much cheaper than expanding our existing digital signage (Tripleplay) as the licenses and client devices are a crazt price.

Acer Revos unless you can custom build a tiny.machine.

that's what I am looking at now, custome building does sound nice, if not a lil tricky on the tiny "nettop" pcs

Looks like someone's got our back: Xibo Digital Signage in Raspberry Pi Emulator (Step 1) | CNXSoft – Embedded Software Development. Hopefully it'll be complete when its released, shame we rely on powerpoint so much.

Response is that the python client will work - Powerpoint 2010 has the option to save as a video which is the easiest way to then play powerpoints on the Xibo python client.

 

Raspberry PI should be ideal.

Well I have my Raspberry Pi and an xibo server set up.

 

I only have an 8Gb SD card at the minute though and I keep filling it up.

 

When my bigger SD card turns up I'll make a concerted effort to see if I can get the pyclient up and running on the pi. Ill post my findings here when I have had chance to try it.

 

Edit : Sorry, I have just realised I might have resurrected a seriously old thread. Ill post my findings here anyway..........

Are you saying that you actually have the client working on a Raspberry Pi? On what OS?
