cookie_monsta Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Hi all!! I am wondering if someone can help me... We have several HP3505n dotted around the place. Mostly they are used by XP 32bit clients, however our server is 2008 R2 x64. The 32 and 64 bit drivers are installed on the server (well, generic HP drivers that seem to work are installed). User are able to print with no major issues....occacionally the print spooler on the server does funny things... However a few times a day per printer the printer churns out a HP help page....nothing interesting or helpful on it...just a few boxes with text in different languages... its now getting annoying and wasting paper and toner.... any ideas of a fix? DT it happens randomly morning, noon and and night regardless of if one is on site or logged onto the network. been through menus etc on the printers but cant find owt if it was 1 printer then i wouldnt be to bother but as its all of them.....its a concern also i cant change the driver to PCL5 or 6.?? as they refuse to print in colour.... ta
DT2 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 My first action would be to entirely rule out the possibility of user involvement by locking down their permission. Secondly, unplug the cat5. leave it plugged in and powered on, see if it persists - if it does (which I suspect it will) then it's likely a system or firmware issue. In which case a call to HP is required..... DT
meastaugh1 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I'd be inclined to try model-specific drivers as I've found that UPD doesn't work with some models, regardless of what HP might claim (OJ8000, k8600, CLJ2605). If you can't find them on HP's site or in Windows, try downloading from MS catalog site.

sted Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 id try disabling the buttons on the printer itself (can often be done via web page or just on the worst offender sticky tape a thick bit of card over it) i usually find those pages come out when someone has been leaning on a control panel button
synaesthesia Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 The difficulty is when serving x86 clients a printer install from an x64 server (which I'm currently setting up at the moment) is that more often than not (HP, I'm talking at you, you bunch of useless gits) you will get a universal driver for x64 but a proper driver for x86. If you want to share the printer, you appear to HAVE to install the UPD for both
accura2000 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 had same problem with the same printers.... Got so fed up trying so many things, i built a 2003 32bit virtual server, joined it to the domain and used it as a 32 bit printer server. No more problems
