Can anyone suggest somewhere reputable and school friendly to buy low profile pci-e graphics cards. Need some for machines to run sims discover adequately. I've looked around but a lot are low profile pcbs but not low profile on the ends. Don't need to be majorly powerful. Looking for around £40ish each.

thanks.

We bought some Sapphire 5570s for our HP DC7900s to help run Solidworks, these are a 'proper' graphics card, unlike the 5450 which is very weak. They came with full and half height brackets, they're actively cooled so don't get as hot as the passive. We got ours from Misco - the 6570 has replaced it now, it's quicker again - Sapphire Radeon HD6570 1GB PCI-Express Graphics Card (11191-00-20G) - www.misco.co.uk but you should be able to get some bulk buy discount.

No worries. They're cracking cards for the money; even though they're not tested for CAD applications, they slice through Solidworks fine. Get well over 5 (maybe even reach 6) on Windows Experience index, where the DC7900 only hits just over 4 with newest drivers (DX 11 vs DX 10 as well).
