We are looking to get Air Con put into our office next year (as its currently 29 degrees in it perminatly!) We have tried the free standing ones and they are not effective enough.

The rooms is aprox 7m by 3m (21sq/m)

What do people reckon?

It depends on where the external unit could be located and how close. For a similar size room (our server room) I paid somewhere around the £1.5k region - all depends with the make and manufacturer of the unit. We've had cheap units before that weren't up to the job so go with a well known brand - we use Hitachi throughout.

The Budget for Inspections is there - we currently have one in most of the IT suites (I think at last count 14 of 19). Plus a couple for the server room. Its just our office which suffers!

Currently we have a mix of Mitsubishi and Daiken units. I'll put in 2k for the office - the cable run would be about 1m! as its an outside wall on the ground floor.

Mitsubishi are ok Daiken are better IMHO - all Mitsubishi's where put in during the summer but i didn't know the cost as the builders sub-contracted it out.

Don't forget to budget for the 6 monthly inspections. I think these are mandatory in schools.

Can you link to relevant legislation/documentation to support that please?

Thanks.

TBH its good practice - especially with the server room ones 24/7 365 days.

classrooms not as much of a priority but if the law says it then i need to make a change to our contract.

That's exactly my reason for asking maintenance on ours is scheduled by the company doing it and it tends to be 2 visits a year was just interested to see actual hard facts relating to it.

I would say even more of an importance in class rooms personally due to possibility of Legionnaires' disease if not maintained correctly as you're going to infect more people from a classroom unit than a server room unit, but on the other hand operating wise yes the server room one wins.

True - I was more meaning the lessoning the likely hood of breakdown (server room being more critical) Our Premises guys clean the filters in the Air Con every so often (internal ones anyway).
