Give up?? I did!! :)

In the end i used one of our servers to do it as it has a second network card in it which bypasses the isa for whole different reason! Enable the second card and ftp works!!

If you can get it working then can you let me know how you do it.

I sometimes get odd problems like this with FTP behind ISA. I have found that if you use a machine that does not have to authenticate you are OK.

Also remember to fill in your FTP-proxy details... always helps ;)

what is the error message your getting? i had this last week and it was getting on my nerves but it was me being thick and not unticking the read only box on configure ftp when you right click your isa firewall rules!

it annoyed me for a full day! in between everything else!

Are you able to get an FTP connection or not??

If you are able to get an FTP connection then when you try to FTP something do you get access denied??

Also what version of ISA are you using??

I just get an access denied error rather than being able to establish a ftp connection, i will have to check out the read only tick box and ftp-proxy details, im not always based there so will try, it maybe only http proxy has been set but not https, ftp etc.

Cheers for all feedback

We had a similar issue. We could conntect, but was read only. We made all the changes so that FTP connections were not read-only, but the continued to do so.

Found this thread today, while doing to research, and thought I would pass on todays findings :-)

We found, that if the FTP rule, was very early in the list, then it works fine. Towards the end of the list, then it would still be read-only. So if you are still having issues, then try placing for rule for FTP closer to the top of the list.

Do you have the FTP over HTTP protocol enabled? I found that FTP refused to work (with Forefront TMG at least, don't know about ISA) until this was enabled.

No ISA Client installed. Nothing installed on our PC's, just using standard FTP software.

Filezilla can handle proxies (passive mode) and I know its worked through our ISA but generally when ftp is needed its far simpler the install the ISA client.

Its Filezilla we are using, it didnt work until we changed the rule order. I'm just happy it worked, as updating the school website was being a pain.

I think it is one of those things, that different ways work for different people, I just wanted to pass on what worked for us.
