Hi. How do I go about building a MSI for SmartNotebook? For the main software I just took the MSI out of %temp%. I have failed once using the RM tools and it was bigger that the full MSI. I just what an MSI of the SmartNotebook software to go in offices for preparing lessons.

You can download a deployable MSI straight from the SmartTech website. It's called the "SMART Board software 9.5 for system administrators - Windows operating system", available here

Are you talking about the Gallery, or the actual notebook software? If it's the notebook software, then see above.

If it's the gallery, then it can be a little more complicated. Smart have an administrator's guide, which details command lines for the gallery - there's no MSI for it. So I made a MSI that just runs the executable command. If you want, I can post the commands I used and the MSI tomorrow.

Alternatively, you can probably do it an even easier way (I didn't do it this way because I didn't realise at the time!):

1. Make a MSI that contains all the gallery (put it in program files or something)

2. Make the MSI add/change the following reg fragment (I've exported this from the registry, so you can either copy it into a text file and import it or do it manually but don't use double slashes in the file names.)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SMART Technologies Inc.\Gallery\TeamContent\gallery.smarttech.com]
"ImsManifestXml"="C:\\Program Files\\SMART Board Software\\Essentials for Educators\\imsmanifest.xml"
"MetadataXml"=""
"AppPath"=""
"Args"=""
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Where the IMSmanifestxml value is the location of your gallery.

I edited SMART's MSI to say that the Gallery was on a shared network drive - that saves having a truly silly sized MSI which takes an age and a day to install. It also makes for much easier editing/updating of the Gallery too. IIRC, it was as simple as changing one registry key.

The MSI in the SMART Notebook for Administrators (or whatever it's called) is just Notebook, the Gallery is a separate download.
