Students changes attributes of hidden on a folder

Hi

 

The pupils have another game they are now playing.

 

Pupils have a shared area where they can save work for teachers. so teachers can collect this from one location. The problem we have though is pupils can changed the hidden attribute as shown, which then hides the selected folder.

 

Is there a way which I can disable pupils from doing this?

The whole drop folder thing is bad idea: plagarism and malicious/accidental deletions are what you risk.

 

This is really the kind of thing best left to a VLE.

The way we do this is to have a share called Dropbox. This share sudents have read only access to. Within that share are folders for each teacher in the building. All of the teacher folders are set to write only (not modify) permission. This way the student can drop files into his teachers "dropbox" folder to turn it in, but can not see or modify any files within it.

 

This does take a bit of learning though as in .. Johnny Smith from period 1 names his book report on "To Kill a Mockingbird" 1SmithJtkam.doc and drops it in his teachers box. Otherwise it ends up kind of a mess. It has worked for us for 5 years though and rather well I think.

 

As for a quick fix for your problem; wont just taking away modify properties stop them from changing file attributes?

Sounds good but taking away the modify permission normally results in zero lenght files for us.

This tends to be when saving directly from an Office app to the drop folder. The workaround is to save the file to the user's home directory, then copy to the drop folder in explorer.
