AngryTechnician Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 We have Lovefilm at home and last night I signed up to the free trial of Netflix to take a look. The big difference between the two is that Netflix (in the UK at least) is streaming only. However, it is all-in, so 5.99/month gets you access to the entire Netflix library with no extra charges. The downside is that the selection is poor, especially compared to the US Netflix. That said, the selection available for streaming on Lovefilm is just as bad. Hopefully it will improve, because if it doesn't I'll be cancelling my account at the end of the trial.
sparkeh Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Trying to cancel is annoying though as you have to do it by phone and sit through 5 minutes of them offering you cut price deals etc which is customer retention after all but i just wanted shut as i wasn't actually using it. Don't get me started. Just resolved a complaint with Love Film about repeatedly taking money from us even though I phoned up to cancel 3 times. If I ever hear the phrase "We have no record of your call" ever again...
teejay Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 The big problem Lovefilm and Netflix have is the exclusivity contracts Sky have signed with most of the big film studios, which is why the selection of films on these services for streaming isn't as good as some of you would like. It's being looked into by the competition commission and with Netflix starting up over here there will hopefully be more pressure applied to get the problem sorted out. Even so, I still find for £5.99 a month there are a lot of films to watch, maybe not so many recent blockbusters but certainly enough other stuff to keep me interested.

Well let me see, both are registered companies in the UK, US, Europe, etc. Both trade in the legal distribution of films by means of rentals and streaming (which is all tracked and traceable), and both have the legal license to do the above. "megashares, or some of the usernet sites" have none of the above and therefore distributing films, games, software etc illegally. Especially if you get it for free when you know it should be purchased! 2

Flakes Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 some people can cancel online after 10pm on lovefilm (didnt work for me just kept telling me to ring).... a swift email later and i manged to cancel my account without using the phone.
