Well when it comes to DNS/AD i'm not as clued up as i should be. Ever since i setup our new DC last summer it has caused us problems. We have always managed to live with them but i now want to add a SDC and auth our SchoolGuardian against AD. Will start with the first problem...

Go to our server that i am trying to setup as a secondary type in detials click ok and the following error appears...

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain campus.shebbearcollege.co.uk:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."

(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.campus.shebbearcollege.co.uk

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a domain controller for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a domain controller is added to a domain. They are updated by the domain controller at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with following IP addresses:

192.168.100.2

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:

campus.shebbearcollege.co.uk

shebbearcollege.co.uk

co.uk

uk

. (the root zone)

For information about correcting this problem, click Help.

Any help on this would be greatful, i'm sure this is also causeing the problems with our SchoolGuardian server too so if i could fix this would be major one off the problem list.

Thanks for any help you can give me :)

If your AD dns is not working you will have a whole host of trouble.

I'd be tempted to uninstall dns on your dc and reinstall following the wizard and creating an active directory integrated zone.

Any more dc's you want to set up you again follow the wizard and they will read all the dns info from AD.

This is something that stumped me for a while and manifested itself as DNS Errors - just check that all the system accounts are in the default folder in the AD tree (Users).
