I've done a search but pulled up no obvious results. Presumably people have started to roll this out? Any issues, should I hold off for a bit?

My understanding is that if you do not implement SP2 you do not get any more Security Updates? Can anyone who hasn't installed it tell me if that is the case?

If I go to the Update site I have the optio nof not installing Service Pack 2 and can still install Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB925902), among other things.

WE installed it on all 13 of ours, only thing it broke was RIS.............now theres another topic.

we updated our 4 servers with service pack 2, all was fine. service pack 2 updates RIS to WDS to add support for vista. we have had no problems with RIS breaking down because of sp2.

You can still get security updates

Isnt there a period of time until SP2 becomes mandatory?

However Ive deployed it on all of my 2003 servers and there hasnt been a problem (we dont use RIS though)

wds uses the new WIM imaging format as used in windows vista. however there is a "windows deployment services legacy" shortcut in the administrative tools folder to create older setups which include ghost pxe boot disks. this has worked for us and we use the the old ghost corporate 8 version.

There is / was a tool to block SP2 for Server 2003....

I dont have it to hand though :(

Please keep RIS / WDS discussion on this thread to a minimum as there are threads for this already.

SP2 didn't install properly for me the first time but it didnt mess the server up [thankfully as it was the DC lol] but removed itself and told me that it couldnt.

I went on a fixing spree and cleaned off all programs that werent fundimental to the operation of the DC - i.e. some HP tools, PMP, etc etc - and it did it the second time around.
