gshaw Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Probably my favourite computer along with the Acorn RISC PC BBC News - The BBC Microcomputer and me, 30 years down the line http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/57052000/jpg/_57052571_bbcmicro.jpg
philwaud Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Right with you on that one, although writing programs (they werent called apps then :-) was a nightmare! Ive still got my programmers reference manual somewhere, four volumes each 40mm thick! Loved assembler on the beeb, but preferred to program z80 assembler - it had so many more commands!
sdc Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Still using and loving my Beebs. I run an after-school club with some interested pupils using BBCs to learn about hardware and programming. Should anyone want to donate any surplus-to-requirements BBC-related equipment or manuals, please do let me know!
difinity Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Elite, how i lost so many hours to you. You were ace. And i can't remember how, but i wrote a program in BASIC to solve simultaneous equations.
SimpleSi Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Still using and loving my Beebs. I run an after-school club with some interested pupils using BBCs to learn about hardware and programming I'd enjoy doing that Elite, how i lost so many hours to you. You were ace. One of the top computer games of all time I couldn't afford a Model B so I bought a Model A and bought the parts to upgrade it myself. I still remember the day I bought a floppy drive - it was one of the most impressive performance upgrades I've experienced! Si

Wish I would've known about you a few years back, managed to save some kit (including a rather funky Cub IR touchscreen) but I've seen a couple go that I couldn't find space for
sdc Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) For those interested, you can still buy BBCs reconditioned, complete with a number of extras, including USB, 2GB internal flash drives, sideways RAM and a host of other goodies, from RetroClinic - keep an eye out on eBay. Here's a link to a recently-completed sale... (scroll down the page for the details of what's crammed into the case!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260894133700 Edited December 1, 2011 by sdc
Flatpackhamster Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Fans of Elite should be able to download Elite - The New Kind from somewhere on the net. It's a complete rebuild of the game for the PC, and it also includes a copy of The Dark Wheel, the novella which came in the box.
