Hello all,

I recently upgraded both my Domain and Forest functional levels to Windows Server 2008 R2 in most of the domains I support. A new feature I've stumbled across is the Active Directory Recycle Bin. Apparently this isn't enabled by default and can be enabled using one of these two methods.

Is it any good and worth enabling? It cannot be disabled once it's enabled. I can't seem to find any images or videos about it or what to expect, hence me posting here. Many thanks!

Are there any other additions (whilst on the subject) worth me looking at? I use 2008 R2 Standard at all sites if this makes any difference...

When you think of recycle bin you think of a nice easy way of restoring objects but it is still complicated with powershell cmd lines etc.

Thanks guys, I shall certainly take a look at this. I think I'll apply it to my test domain and see how it goes.

I have to agree with ChrisH though, it does appear to be all Powershell based and not GUI based which is a shame.

That's good to know, thanks Arthur. It's interesting that it still won't be enabled by default however (according to the article).

It'll be interesting to see just when Windows 8 and Windows Server 8 are actually released. Windows 7 and 2008 R2 were released July 2009, so I suspect Q4 2012 is a high probability. I could never imagine Microsoft naming their latest server OS Windows Server 2013, even if it's available mainstream Q1 2013.

Microsoft skipped Office13 and went straight to Office14 (Office 2010), but I can't imagine Windows 8 being released in 2014, it's too much of a gap.
