dispose of PCs

Who does everybody use for pc disposal? So many companies and need to make sure the data is securely wiped and destroyed?

Only one way to know that your data is wiped and that is to destroy your HDDs yourself with a hammer and then weigh them in for scrap as prices are quite high now.

 

As for companies that do this there are plenty online who will do the same and make money out of you.

Not sure of your location but try - WEEE-RecycleUK - Computer Recycling, IT Disposal, PC Collection, WEEE Compliance, Data Destruction if you are lincs/notts/leics area.

I think @Millgate do a buy back depending on the hardware your disposing of. I think Luke would be best person to speak to about that though

We always use PRM Green Technologies - you need to have 30 items for a free collection, but on the plus side we normally get a free mug!

 

We always get a data destruction certificate as well as the waste transfer one.

@elsiegee40 & @RTFM are right. Depending on the kit, we might be able to buy the kit off you as well as providing certificates. Companies that offer JUST free recycling are possibly making money the other side and not passing it onto you.

 

The worse i will offer you is to do it free of charge! Just email or PM me what you've got and i'll see what i can do

when we replace our old kit, we Fdisk them and put an old copy of XP home on them. then we ship them to our sister school out in Africa. However, not too sure how much the shipping costs are?

 

 

Or you could have fun with the hard discs in the DT department. Drills, Ban saws, hammers, Chisels

Same. Have used them for a couple of years now and they've been great. Yes you need 30 items but that's not a problem, and they'll quite often pick up additional boxes of odds and ends you may have lying around.

Either Computer Aid if the kit is usable and in working order or Stone (although they charge now if the PCs are working order you might get back enough £££ to cover the disposal)

 

Both options will securely wipe the HDDs and give you a certificate of disposal.
