MatthewL Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I am after a new sat nav, the one I have is dated, its a Navman F20, I am after a TomTom with live traffic built in. Looking at the ones on their site, Car navigation - Products - TomTom, I don't know which is best, so any recommendations? I would like to be able to enter my own places of interest if at all possible.

You can save your own Points of Interest and we bought a set of Good Beer Guide PoI for around a fiver from CAMRA. We have an older 920 which came with world maps, but TBH we only used Europe until last Easter when the other maps were so out of date we bought a new one of australia! We drive in France regularly so we couldn't manage with just UK maps. Our TomTom has been brilliant. We use the traffic and speed camera features regularly... Although we found at that Swiss cameras are not available and got flashed in Geneva.

It doesn't know about traffic jams, has a serious thing about sending me up the wrong way on one way system in Bradford and with it's complete denial about the roundabouts near where I live it's fine! (but really, I too need a new one...)
MatthewL Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 The F20 has done me proud for what little use I have used it for, prefer a map book but the other week in Sheffield was the final straw. It's slow, cant get the maps to update on it, need a modern one.
sted Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 As a point dont some garmins now have lifetime map updates. Ive had updates on tom tom maps and after a year of them a changed junction on m621still wat updated and m1 near leeds had wrong junction numbers

Domino Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Android has built in Sat Nav that I cannot fault Plus 1 to that, I was gonna buy a satnav but started using my old desire - have since changed to the SGS2 Maps/navigation is great on them. always up to date, caching so you don't need constant data, traffic and day/night modes. Plus, if you lose GPS lock you can still use the aerials to get a rough location fix - which is very handy.

bondbill2k2 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) Used the sat nav on my HTC Hero and a HTC Desire both android both better then my old TomTom, hook it up to the cars bluetooth or AUX if you have it and use it for music, fadaes the music out for announcements so its much better then using a little satnav speaker IAlso dont forget there is also the tom tom app for the iPhone.. im sure its just 'as' good but its not free Its £80 for the UK and Europe maps or £50for UK & Ireland then around £40 per map set for aus,hong kong etc....
