TechSupp Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 . Just been given a couple of Kindles to setup and quickly found the no proxy setting issue but....we have just had a new Ruckus wireless network installed, did anyone know if this could be done on Ruckus i.e. to set up a transparent proxy and any ideas how to do it? (last part especially!)
MYK-IT Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 It was mentioned a long time back that an upcoming firmware update would allow Ruckus system to push WPAD/PAC file (or similar) settings out etc, but it never seemed to have materialised. We use SmoothWall UTM1000 (for non/transparent proxy - amongst other services) with our Ruckus system and it works a dream. Sorry does not really help you..besides setting proxy settings via DHCP/WPAD/PAC/installing a transparent proxy server.
featured_spectre Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 VLAN the wifi - set the vlan up to work with a smoothy box (or your filtering provider) as a transparent proxy, job is done

The firmware is coming out in a week I think, it does the trick and will only deploy wpad files which can be hosted on the ZD. Still for kindle, Android and everything else that you can't set a proxy in you need to build a transparent proxy. (easier said than done)
