Adobe Flash Plugin Vs Active X

Today I have deployed Firefox to some office machines and realised that a Flash plugin will need installing to get it working with sites such as Youtube et al.

 

Currently deployed is the Flash Active X msi for IE. I was wondering if I made the move to the plugin msi, will this work with IE and not just Firefox?

The plugin only works with 3rd-party browsers. You'll still need the ActiveX version for IE.

 

Both are easy to deploy silently though. I personally prefer the .exe pushed with -install, but that's because Adobe historically make problematic .msi packages.

Unless you get the 64bit ones which are about twice as big as they contain and install both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

Indeed very true Synack. You can still install Flash 32Bit on a 64Bit client. I can't tell any difference between the two (from a user perspective).

They are identical, its just that the 32 bit one does not work in the 64 bit version of IE as well which can cause issues as above.

I suppose as Synack pointed out, deploying Flash would be something like 10MB in size instead of 4MB. It can make a big difference deploying to workstations.

 

You don't really get dual 32/64Bit installers. Most if not all 32Bit installers will work on 64Bit, just not the other way around.

We use the MSI's as the exes were bothersome via GPO. All you have to do is apply for Deplyment rights.

 

I agree about the dual package, they should be bundled imho. How much is 10mb in the grand scheme of things??
