Hi,

 

We have upgraded our DL585 G2 to 64 Gb each and had no problems. ESX discovers the memory automaticly. You do need to check how much memory your server can handle. And make sure that you use the same type of memory modules which are already placed. I mean clock speed en brand. If you cannot buy the same modules anymore, it's wyse to replace the excisting mem modules.

And finally do a memory check before running ESX, if there are any faults it's better to check first than go live and have bigger problems! :-)

I assumed ESX would just see it but wasnt sure for certain and there is nothing i could find on the vmware knowledge base that confirmed by assumption so i thought i should check. I've already got the memory and made sure its the same HP branded stuff and checked the to see what the DIMM slot configuration should be.

Make sure the server isn't set to use the new slots as failover - not sure with that model but I have server with extra RAM which isn't seen by the OS - the BIOS handles it in the event of a module failure.
