Dos_Box Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 The CPU cooler on the office PC has decided it is (to quote Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner) 'Time to die'. It's a liquid cooler (sealed unit) and the pump has gone which results in cpu temp fluctuations and lots of alarm beeps, so it's time for a new cooler. I'm currently working on a laptop I'm not after anything bank breaking, but as I have an i7-950 on a socket 1366 motherboard I want to make sure that I order the right thing. I don't want an Intel stock cooler as apparently they are next to useless in actually keeping the i7 cool, but I have seen this: Titan Intel Copper CPU Cooler - TTC-Nk34TZ/R/V2 - Scan.co.uk Can anyone confirm that this will do without my needing to purchase a back 'x bracket, or can anyone recommend a better cooler for a similar price?
Ric_ Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Finally... you are getting rid of that noisey, pointless, piece of rubbish CPU cooler. Your office will be so much quieter. Don't get another rubbish one though... you can't generally go wrong with a nice Zalman but ask ZeroHour for advice!
SHimmer45 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I use a Coolermaster Hyper cooler on my AM3 board with a Phenom X2 550 idle temps are low 20's. comes with a retention bracket for intel sockets which supports 1366 mobo needs to come out mind. nice and quiet as well even under heavy load it is BIG
featured_spectre Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Zalman coolers are pretty much the mutts nuts in terms of coolers. The main question is, do you want to go quiet (and much cooler than stock coolers) or super cool (but a bit noisy)?

Even when the CoolIT Domino was on it's lowest setting it was like sitting next to a taxiway at Heathrow!

Michael Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 If your case can take it, some large 120mm fans keeps things quiet/cool as well. Thermalright's are good too, but you may need to take the mobo out to fit a bracket behind it. Large heatsinks = a lot more weight.

Please let me know. The operative word here is affordable. NO STOCK COOLERS PLEASE!
