Do you really think leaving a gun by the door to frighten children who are spending time with their parents or friends going round their community, taking part in activities of an annual holiday is big and cleaver? I am not angry in the slightest, and horrible, well doing a trick when they say "TRICK or TREAT", well shouldn't that be my prerogative as they are leaving the choice up to me? Cleaver? Isn't that a butchers knife? As for leaving the gun, well lets get technical, its a rifle, and it was not left there, I was cleaning it as the porch light is the brightest and best to see everything with, I like to keep my weapons in tip top condition, whether they are rifles (which for most of the year stay in the gun cabinet) or blades (which again are in the attic due to lack of space in the household area). Are you that bitter that you can’t hand out some candy? Shame on you! Not at all, however it is practically begging. I never did it (out of choice) when I was younger from age 7 or so onwards as I felt uncomfortable with it. If my daughter wants to do it next year, I'll go with her and dress up and play the part like a good parent, however why should we be "forced" into giving sweets/candy out? For someone who wants to work in education you have a very strange and unsettling attitude towards children. Happy Halloween I don't care where I work, be it education, corporate, private, health etc. My attitude towards children is fantastic, just ask the kids from my daughters playgroup who think of me kindly (and even make me cards or pictures for when I babysit/look after them).

mthomas08 Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I just got called horrible by a parent who is out with their children because I did a trick for them rather than give them a treat (Trick or Treat...all in the saying), I did it and they said do we still get a treat, and I said sorry no treats... And another one said it because I told them I do not believe in halloween as it is essentially children begging for food and money (in the space between 4:30 - 7:00 we have had over 30 people knocking)...and each time I either do a trick or say I do not do halloween (depending on the age of the children) Am I horrible for this? Not at all, Halloween isn't for everyone and I would always prefer a sign saying No trick or treaters. Some kids/parents make the effort while others just stick a bin bag over their heads and make no effort and just do it for the treats. Not many people in my area make the effort but then again the local people are not the nicest types.

This happened to me too a few years back, i have learnt my lesson, kids do not want the healthy option! nephillim, I thought that when they said trick or treat, if you say trick, it is them that plays the trick on you, not you playing a trick on them. The 5000 press ups I had to do over 2 days during basic training helped me learn that a gun goes on wheels, floats on a boat or is mounted in shock absorbers. I was given the choice of doing the 5000 press ups or pop down to Woolwich and borrow one of the smaller guns to run around with as I kept mistaking a rifle for a gun. Strangely enough, no-one had a go at the CSM when he was screaming at people to get a grip of their guns when practicing for pass out parade. Can't think why! 2

On topic: I have a gate which helpfully keeps out the destructive demanding youths who follow in the footsteps of their American TV upbringing. I did think that rigging up one of those electronic sprinkler controllers with a switch and a well aimed hose would make quite a nice answer to the trick or treat debate especially if the little vandles try to get through the gate.
