If so, could you go into Settings-About Phone and tell me what your Kernel Version and Build number are please

(Only if your using it as it came -not if you've modded it :) )

Mine are

2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555

and

GINGERBREAD.XWKF3

2.6.35.7-i9100buke1-cl182896

GINGERBREAD.BUKE1

Any reason?

Having had my interest piqued, I've found that there is a firmware update, so the above may change.

I was thinking of rooting it (where you have to temp flash an "insecure" kernel) and then wanted to put it back to the original one and then couldn't match what my phones got and what the forums said it should have :confused:

Once you've done the update, can you re-tell me what it says then please?

Would be very interested to hear your experiences with this, Si. I'm strongly considering a switch from HTC to Samsung when my contract expires, and in spite of some of the hype surrounding the Galaxy Nexus, I still think the S2 is the better phone. My final decision might well rest on how easy it is to root/mod the device - even if I might not necessarily do it.

@Andrew - Ta

I think I've managed to unearth the fact that phones sold by Phones4U on the vodafone network aren't necessarily running branded vodafone firmware which explains the discrepency.

The other thing I've discovered is that the letter after the K (g in your case) indicates the month the firmware was released so according to my math yours is from July - could you check and dial *#1234# and see what it says please?

PS just for interest - what version of Android does it say in the About Phone? - mine is 2.3.5
