how big is your eclipse.net database?

Our sql2005 server seems to having some issues not least the sqlservr process using 1.6GB of ram.

The wbls database is 5976.25mb

is that usual?

Our eclipse database is 1.4Gb - I think I might have to try and shrink it! SQL will use all the RAM you can throw at it. It's supposed to release it gracefully if needed elsewhere.

i'd noticed that shrink option earlier. probably try it later.

Our eclipse has 26k resources, 1828 borrowers, 461 current loans. how does that compare?

28k resources, 2052 borrowers and 1661 loans, so not dissimilar.

so similar but your database is 4 times smaller! Will shrinking take the database offline?

Just had a look at our system and get the following:

20K Resources, 1095 borrowers, 455 loans

sqlservr = 1.2GB

wbls database = 465MB

I don't know if it makes a difference but we are using SQL Server 2008 R2

Just come across this thread so I thought I'd check ours..........18GB:confused: that can't be right I thought.

Phone call to Microlib about database size, tracked the problem down to a 17GB log file

Solution was to set the recovery model to Simple in the SQL management console and then shrink the database. @browolf shrinking it doesn't take it offline. Now I have a database file of 555MB

we have 18000 resources, 1600 borrowers and 630 current loans

How much historic data does it contain? Our librarian is very good at clearing out the old users and resources.

Emptying recycle bin of users it's much good. Everytime it checks for new users in sims through mlsconnect, it imports the 4000 users (all users ever) and discards the ones it doesn't need into the recycle bin.

ours is around 500MB.

from memory the database can get massive if it is logging every change in the system (including imports) so if there is a problem you can revert back to before the change.

instead of this i just do a simple backup each night.

i believe MLS do document this when setting the Database up

I think ours is set to full backup. I couldnt find a setup guide in the docs on the support part of mls site.

I'm not aware of that setting either?

We're using SQL server 2008 and I've just found the disc space on our eclipse server down to 0 bytes because of the wbls database log file of 102Gb!

We run about 10K books with about 2000 users and 600+ current loans

So to truncate the log files (from experience with SIMS):

1 Logon to the server and run the SQL Server Management studio.

2 Expand databases

3 Select the database and right click, select properties.

4 Check files to see that the file is part of the database.

5 Click Options and change the recovery model to simple, OK that.

6 Right click the database name again and from the menu select shrink/Files

7 Once it completes repeat steps 3 and 4 but change the recovery model to full.

That will manually shrink the transaction logs and free up the disc space to let the SQL server continue.
