I'm being both dense and impatient...

I've asked my reseller where to get my old UPS battery recycled and they've not gotten back to me yet... I've looked through the paperwork and all I can find refers to the US... which is the wrong side of the pond...

I've got an APC Smart-UPS 1000 and the old (dead) battery is on the floor in its box waiting for me to trip over it for the third time today...!

Anyone?

There is no obligation on the part of the reseller to dispose of the old battery but under WEEE compliance you are responsible for making sure it is done responsibly.

Lead Acid/Gel Batteries surprisingly have a huge reclamation rate and almost everything gets reused and the lead content is the most valued.

As such most civic amenity points (tips) are more than happy to take them so why not stick it in your boot and drop it off when you make the next dump run. The carbon footprint of having somebody come and collect it and ship it onwards is not practical so if your serious about recycling it do it yourself and save a tree.
