The sad demise has already taken place for us.

I kind of miss analogue, a bit of white noise and ghosting was far better than squeeks and random blocks when the weather is bad. Also, scanning 5 channels to discover there is nothing on worth watching was far quicker than 50+ freeview channels. Ah well, everything moves on.

4g possibly but i vote for more freeview and preferably hd there needs to be some competition to phone hackers ink satellite and virgin seem incabable of laying more cable anywhere

I live in a block of flats with a really crappy communual aerial. It barely picks up the terrestrial channels. When I moved in, I asked the managing agents to get it looked at and the problem is that the aerial is as old as the flat and isn't strong enough to pick up the main London transmitter, just the local Barnet one which doesn't transmit Freeview.

 

So what happens when the terrestrial signal is turned off in April? God only knows.

Norphy where are you based...if you are in bedfordshire and you pick up the barnet tower thats wrong...very wrong...you should be picking up the one in Sandy!

I lived in Dunstable until about a month ago. I now live in Barnet, barely a ten minute walk from the transmitter!

As for the Barnet Transmitter, Why not buy a signal booster or a house aerial from argos for like £30?

Tried a signal booster but it didn't work, you can't boost what's not there I guess. I also tried one of the more expensive internal aerials which picked up some of the freeview channels but none of the important ones. GAF came into play with it as well!

 

The commute from Barnet isn't too bad, it's about a 50 minute drive on most days.

When the analogues are turned off the digital signals are boosted so that might help you Norphy.

Is CEEFAX reception good on the present analogue service? If it is then you should get your half-a-freeview ok in April.

We (in Wales) lost our analogue signal about a year ago. The good news is that the digital signal has been boosted so that I'm now able to receive Freeview with a crummy little indoor aerial. This was impossible before the switchover (I tried it many times) which is why I set up my Freesat system.

 

When analogue is switched off, I'm sure most of you will find that the digital signal will be fine.
