Help me setup 2k8 for school!!! (Pretty please...)

HI everyone,

 

(At this moment - I'm installing 2k8 R2 - FULL INSTALLATION for one of small non-profit school...)

 

just want a small favor;

 

I need your help with simple instruction how to setup in proper order for this only following -> DNS, DCHP and AD. (Right now all of the nodes - approx 40 of 'em - are connected to the router)

 

Which role should I set up first? Let me know soon as you can.

how far have you got? , step 1 put in dvd step 2 boot from dvd....?

Add the AD role and choose your internal domain name, try something like organisation.internal (.local will make macs fail) this will also install DNS and configure it. Setup DHCP, I think it may even be part of the AD setup wizard and then turn off DHCP on the router. Join a few test workstations to AD. Start playing with Group policy and user shares/logons etc.

What I see;

 

Already booted with DVD - now restarting to the "The user's password must be changed before logging on the first time." I'll do it right away and wait for info from you and others!

Actually the first time I installed yesterday afternoon along with dns, dhcp and ad then got something messed up with dns, couldn't get one of node to join to the domain's server. So I deiced to start over from scratch and follow your and others' instructions. SHOULD I DISCONNECT THAT MACHINE FROM THE NETWORK?

That's what I did yesterday and somehow it got messed up so I want to start over again. Maybe I missed something but wanted to get some advises from the experts in here!

Pinged to 10.210.2.1 with no packets loss. That is good! The dns 127.0.0.1, I never thought of it from yesterday... Glad you brought that up!

MACSIT i have to leave now its 18:55 here and been here since 06:30 , hopefully someone can pickup on this for you, if it all goes ok , then simpley install DHCP on the server and turn it off on the router ( to normally access the router you will goto http://10.210.2.1 ) , if you dont know wwhat scope to give the dhcp then set it too 10.210.2.101 to 10.210.2.200 . remeber in DNS to right lcik the server > properties > forwqrding tab > allow forwarding and input your external DNS forwarder ( else pople wont have access to internet) if you do not know what this is try 8.8.8.8

- reboot a pc, try joining the domain! hope you get there.

Thanks man. Btw, I pinged to the server from one of my workstation and it came out into a message -> time out. Is that normal? Just want to be sure everything's in order.

If the firewall on the server is up and you have no rules to allow "ICMP echo request" then you will get a time out.

Thanks! But at this moment, in the router setting - I'm trying to move the dchp range to 10.210.2.101 to 10.210.2.200 then I'll install dchp server in 2k8 for this range -> 10.210.2.30 to 10.210.2.100 but...the dlink router (dir-615) message said "Reserved ip address 10.210.2.71 should be within the configured DCHP range" Any suggestion how to get rid of that message?

DONE! Thanks man. I couldn't the similar rule name in 2k8 r2 so instead I use CLI -> netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8 enable <- works perfectly! Again, thanks!

Got rid of reserved list and the error went away! Now just got the *.*.*.101 -> *.*.*.200 working! Now doing setup the few roles (DNS, DHCP and AD)

Thanks...but should I change the workgroup to different name from System Properties?
