Why won't Microsoft products do what you want rather than what they think you want

Why is it time and time again Microsoft sticks it's oar in and either makes it impossible or damn right difficult or for you to do what you want/need to do.

So true of so many fields. I remember when we were having our office refitted and the benches were proving a nightmare for the fitters to get in. The pair of them spent a few minutes despairing at the job they'd been left with before one of them declared "Well, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it."

I couldn't agree more and I remind myself this everytime I have to turn on someones monitor or unmute the sound!

Their revenue stream is based around not doing what the user wants because what the user wants is usually wrong. "But why can't I install Fabulous Unicorn Cursors from shadytraders.cn?"

 

Other OS will not only let you do what you want, they'll happily hand you the bullets so you can shoot your foot off. The lack of uptake on foot-shootability would imply end-users aren't that fond of the capability.
